When you want your website to bring in more hits, the secret sauce is Search Engine OptimizationSEO is the art of improving a website’s visibility and placement on Google search results, as well as the other search engines. The best thing about SEO is that anyone can do it. The basic procedures are well-understood, and usually, all it takes are a few tweaks to your website and content to start attracting more visitors.

As a search engine optimization company, WSI specializes in helping companies of all sizes build better websites that create new leads and new sales. These are some of the most important areas we focus on.

Five Steps to Improving SEO

1. Make sure your Google profile is current

If your business has a physical location, you want to make sure Google has fully accurate and up-to-date information on your address, phone number, hours, etc, through the Google My Business system. Having a complete and accurate profile will automatically improve your search results placement, particularly for local searches.

2. Implement mobile-friendly web design

If your website is still focused on desktop browsers, it’s well past time to update. More than 50% of all browsing is now done on mobile devices, and Google prioritizes mobile-friendly pages in their results. Desktop-only pages will prevent you from receiving a lot of traffic.

3. Focus on relevant keywords and key phrases

Keywords, phrases, and questions are the core of SEO page design. What terms are people using to search for your company, or within your industry? What questions are they asking about your product or industry? These terms and questions should be deeply integrated into your website copy. This increases your page’s relevance to searches being made.

4. Update frequently with useful content

Search engines give preferential treatment to websites that are updated frequently. Ideally, you should add new content – such as blog articles – on a daily basis, or at least several days a week. Make this content interesting and informative. If people are sharing your content, such as through social media, that too boosts your results placement.

5. Implement secure page encryption (HTTPS)

Google views secured/encrypted pages, using the HTTPS format, to be a high priority. A website will receive better placement simply by utilizing encryption, making this a very easy way to boost placement and visibility.
